Poor Magazine Statement On KPFA On Beating Of Foster |

Lisa Gray-Garcia from the staff of POOR magazine issued a statement in solidarity with KPFA unpaid staff programmer Nadra Foster. Poor Magazine which had a 20 minute monthly segment of the morning show called PoorNewsNetwork was thrown off KPFA due the further commercialization of KPFA. Their show along with Youth News and other shows have been banished from the airwaves of KPFA. They had been producing programs for 8 years.

KPFA and Pacifica Foundation faces yet another case alledging violence and discrimination in the workplace. Today MAYA OROZCO, a former administrative and production assistant at KPFA, filed a civil rights lawsuit in Alameda County Superior Court alleging sexual assault, sexual harassment, retaliation, negligent supervision and hiring and wrongful termination against KPFA and Pacifica Foundation. Recurring allegations to Pacifica are refusal to investigate discrimination complaints, refusal to discipline perpetrators, and fostering an environment of impunity.

Pacifica Counsel and KPFA Concerned Listener's supporter Dan Siegel now says that "It seems the police overdid it. It's not what I expect of the Berkeley Police Department," he said. "I expect them to act in a reasonable, cautious manner."

The Berkeley cops have again shown how of out of control they are. At the same time in her first statement "interim Program Manager Sasha Lilley was that she had nothing to do with it, i.e. abdication of responsibility, instant state of denial, and no sense of outrage. "

KPFA Bosses Change Codes and Limit Entry To Station |

Management is now seeking to crack down on who comes into the station with demands that all staff get new codes to enter and limit who can come into the station. This is another step in the lock down of the station for the new corporateers.
Call the police and lock down the station.

Pacifica Counsel and Concerned Listeners supporter Dan Seigel now says the reason police were called by KPFA is that "management felt afraid when Foster refused to leave".

Akilah Zainabu-El, a KPFA Black women apprentice had her own experience with KPFA management. She was physically assaulted by a KPFA staff member, then was physically removed by "Berkeley's finest". They paraded her around the station and then threatened to take me to Herrick Hospital on a 51/50 as a "crazy person". "I was left lying on the sidewalk".
